Most ulcers heal without any visible scar. If an ulcer is very deep, a permanent scar is often left after it heals. This photograph was taken during a followup gastroscopy done after 8 weeks of medical treatment for a large ulcer in the stomach. The ulcer is gone, but is was so large that the healing process caused a "star-shaped" puckering of the stomach lining. Click here for more information.
