Arista Plus Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS)
The Arista EMS Plus Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS) is
an electronic muscle stimulator that allows you to use up to 8 electrodes
at a time. It also gives you the option of using a 9 Volt battery or being able to
plug it into a wall outlet with an AC Adaptor. It produces "passive" exercise by
sending electrical impulses or signals to the selected muscle or muscle groups to
contract and relax them. The EMS can relax a "tense", "tight" or spasmodic muscle.
Common candidates for EMS include those in high stress situations who experience
muscle tension in the upper back and neck areas, and those who suffer from chronic
tension headaches. The EMS will increase motion, range and response of muscles restricted
from disuse or from atrophy from another cause. It is helpful following activity
restrictions, such as after surgery or being in a cast. It is also helpful at increasing
local blood circulation. The EMS is portable and may be clipped to a belt, shirt
pocket, bra or other clothing.![]()
If you would prefer to use the Arista EMS Plus with 4 electrodes instead of 8, the price is $159. The unit will be shipped to you with 4 bifurcating wires and with 8 electrodes that can be used at the same time.

Muscle Stimulation is also referred to as NMES or Electronic Muscle Stimulator (EMS) and is useful for rehabilitation of muscles following injury or stroke. The device is technically similar to TENS but is powerful enough to achieve a strong muscle contraction. The stimulation phases on-and-off to mimic conventional exercise and thus will cause strengthening of the muscle fibers and increases in "tone."
Indications for the EMS are:
- Relaxation of muscle spasm
- Prevention or retardation of disuse atrophy
- Increasing local blood circulation
- Muscle re-education
- Immediate post-surgical stimulation of calf muscles to prevent venous thrombosis
- Maintaining or increasing range of motion

TENS, EMS, & Galvanic Units as Therapy:
TENS units, EMS (Electronic Muscle Stimulator) units, and galvanic units are an accepted form of therapy by Western medicine in the treatment of specific musculoskeletal conditions. They are commonly used by medical doctors, medical rehabilitation specialists, and medical physiotherapists to treat specific symptoms. These professionals often "prescribe" where the TENS electrodes & EMS electrodes should be placed on the body. Please refer to the bibliography of medical citations in our article found here. Always consult a licensed physician before starting any type of medical therapy.
